Many small business owners in Ontario wonder if the cost to automate payroll
is worth the price?
At Orillia Simcoe bookkeeping, we put automated payroll to the test. The facts might surprise you. Dan a local carpenter in Orillia, wanted to do his own payroll and do it effectively. Presently he was going on the CRA account and using a payroll calculator to
pay his staff of two. He would then email copies to the employees and do e-transfers from his bank. His accountant would do all the reconciling and T4's at year end. The accountant was charging him $500.00 per year for the T4's prep and filing. The accountant also charged for the recording of each pay cheque.
After reviewing, Ceridian and Quick books he chose quick books payroll online. Both of these systems do the full automation of payroll. Dan simply logs in once he has the staff hours and two clicks later payroll has run.
Each employee receives a paystub automatically in their email in box.
Quick Books can direct deposit within two days
Quick Books can also withhold Payroll Deductions and submit them on your behalf
Quick Books can also create ROE (record of employment)
Quick Books will produce T4's and its Summary at year end.
Quick Books will provide a file that you can use to upload to your CRA account.
Ceridian does what quick books does but you still need to have the payroll figures entered
into your books. There are many other 3rd parties that offer automatic payroll services.
